What I do is assure the shop owner that for hosting my cake sample and business cards in their store, I'll do two or three of their family cakes that year. Has worked beautifully for me and I'm not out a lot of money, just some time. $50 is way too much for a referral at $2.00 per serving. You could take a pile of his business cards and tell him you'll refer brides to him for their wedding supplies but no deal on the cash.

: I have a very small business and do a limited number of cakes. A local craft store owner asked if I would work with him. He would send brides to me and he would get a comission. He would like $50.00 per cake order. I think this is way too much, especially since my prices are pretty low (I start at $2.00 per serving). I would like to work with him, do any of you have an idea how this works? Would a percent, like 10% of a base price be more fair? Thanks for any input on this question. Linda
