I never used it to ice cakes on. It sets up too high. I use the ball bearing turntable I always used for that. My method was to ice all my cakes, putting them together as I went, Then I took them back apart to decorate, and immediately put them back together to 'rest'. That locked in decorations, sep. plates etc, when the icing crusted.
But you can turn it so slow you barely can see it move. And thats slow enough for about anything.
