October has been extremely busy for me this year - with wedding cakes then the lull starts in Nov. I'm so tired, I can't wait. I too am not taking any (or many) cake orders in December so that I can host a family Christmas party without feeling like I need to visit the Emergency Room. The biggest downturn so far is in smaller birthday cakes - large celebrations remain steady meaning that families are staying home and getting together and that birthday cakes are being bought from the grocery store or the child has one provided at the party location (aka Chucky Cheese or Bounce University). But that's perfect because that's what I was trying to get rid of was the smaller cakes that I can't make much money from. Why spend 4 hours making a Spiderman cake for $30 when you could have been working on a $500 wedding cake?
: I was extremely busy with cakes all summer and then experienced a lull in September. I actually enjoyed the extra time to do other things, and I did have some cake orders in Sept. But, October has been very busy with weddings and other cakes, and Nov. and Dec. look to be busy, too. I'm considering not taking any more orders until the beginning of the new year because I already have plenty, and I don't want to tie up my time too much so that I can't enjoy the holidays. There's not much of downturn here yet.
: I'm experiencing a real downturn in custom cake orders this fall. Is anyone else? I think it is the economy. I've been having lots of inquiries but no takers.
