I purchased a box of shortening once to make gingerbread houses out of and the box lasted me two seasons - no problems. Just kept the shortening in it's original bag in a box on my cool cellar floor. you'll be ok.

: I have been ordering Alpine shortening, about five 3 lb. containers at a time, probably three times a year. I have no local supplier so must mail order it. If I ordered a 50 lb. cube will it keep for about a year? Our home is air conditioned so it doesn't get real warm.
