And one more thing. Cake decorators in NH were being lumped into the Homestead Act (which allows us to decorate from our licensed homes) along with those at farmers markets who sell jams and jellies. They were about to pass a law stating that anyone under the Homestead act making over $5,000. per year MUST get their own Bakery and all that comes with a bakery because of the possibility of contamination from homemade jams and jellies - and there's so much more but I don't want to bore you about it. So I contacted ICES and asked what they could do to help out all NH cake decorators and all they could say is that "we urge you to follow the legislation of your individual state". So I went to the State House and testified with another decorator and got the Homestead Act cut into two levels - Level 1 is for farmstands up to $5,000 and Level 2 is cake decorators from $5,000 and up to infinity. So there again, we got bubkiss from ICES.

: Thanks so much for your response. I totally agree. The 12 ladies in my cake club started their own group in New Hampshire because the President of the NH ICES chapter quit (because of lack of support and a dwindling membership) and so didn't the alternate so we haven't had meetings in 5 years. An email to our ICES rep was absolutely no help at all. She refused to believe that the NH ICES president quit until I forwarded her the email, then she contacted her and the woman promised to hold a meeting - that was over 3 years ago.........nothing!. So we really get nothing out of our ICES memberships and have all quit. We too find cake chat groups like this - our link to the cake world and appreciate it SOOOOO much.

: I live in Northern Minnesota, and there is not any cake groups near by. I am no longer a member of ICES, as we are on a fixed income, it became too expensive, for what I got out of it. I am unable to go to conventions any more due to my husbands ill health. The message board became my major source of information. With the current economy,
I would not be surprised if the ICES membership drops, and more people will be needing the message board.
: This thread seems to be generating a lot of interest so lets keep it going. I just had another thought. Each year I host a cake meeting in my home. I've watched the same 12 girls for three years now and have noticed that the list has gone from 12 to 8, with only 4 of the original members still attending - plus four newbies. I'm wondering if there's a downward trend in people interested in making cakes - from home or in starting their own bakeries (especially in these tough economic times). Some of our ladies have gone back to the work place where they can earn more income and take advantage of healthcare insurance. Others have bottomed out and retired - still - some continue to do just a few cakes a month and not become licensed. Any of you who belong to cake groups - are you seeing the same downward trend? This may be why the number of posters on this site has dropped off??? Wonder how many kept their ICES memberships?

: Hi Denise,

They would do this on any site that lets them.

Yes we definately got to the end of the law suit and we no longer hear fron the sickos. But I notice that almost all message boards are now requiring registration. Without registration sick people are coming on and posting very sick photos. (Maybe you didn't see them?) I had to drive 25 min. to work at 12 midnoght and shut down that board. My lawyer was shocked at those photos even...and hes young. They were of all kinds of dead bloody people and animals showing private parts etc...you get the picture. And remember all the stupid ads that were being posting? If I let those crazys post ads, they went into your email.

Without registration it was leaving us wide open for bad stuff. Now each and every person who has membership is thoroughly checked out with all information matching and saved. If it happens again my trusty lawyer is right there waiting.

This world is NOT a nice place any more. I remember when it was so much different.
Dolores
