Don't sell yourself short.....Debbir Brown is very talented....but there are plenty people right here on this board that can do amazing work as well. As to how much she charges, I'd say it is a premium price...having watched shows such as Ace of Cakes and seen all the Sylvia Weinstock and Ben-Israel pix in wedding mags where cake are going for $15 a slice, it is obvious that there are people out there that are willing to pay for that type work....just make sure when it is all said and done you don't feel you sold yourself short...that really burns you out quickly!
: Thanks Jeff for the response...$150 seems so steep for a small cake (serving 15)...on the other hand they are a LOT of work....I figured up my $6 per serving (for sculptured cakes) comes to $90 plus $55 for added figures totally $145...so I guess I wasn't so far off the track....I prefer your suggestion of one price rather than tacking on for "extras". However, I'm not Debbie Brown and probably should not try to command those kind of prices. I wonder what she does charge. I feel funny just at $6 for sculptured cakes!!
: I dont' have her books, but have seen her cakes and they are amazing...I would not tackle one for less than $10-12 per serving.
: Hey ya'll, I have a customer asking about Debbie Brown cakes...she has the Enchanted Cakes for Children book and was asking me about prices of 3 of the cakes. Ordinarily I charge $6 per serving for sculptured cakes, but these are so very detailed. I don't know how to price them...for instance, I'm thinking I should charge the $6 per serving for the central cake and then tack some on for the additional figures? The onese she is looking at are: Fruit Fairies, Enchanted Tree and Sleepy Dragon (for those who have the book)....Any help/thoughts would be appreciated!
