Gumpaste Help

I have never worked with gumpaste before but I am trying to make a stem with 7 leaves to go on a wedding cake I have to make for this Saturday and it just doesn't seem to be working. I have to make 12 of these stems to go in between bamboo shoots that I made out of fondant. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can make this so the leaves will stick to the stem? Thanks!
