No, it is how they sell more piping gel. You do need some way of adhearing the fondant to the cake/icing - I just use fresh buttercream if my icing has already crusted.
: I read the directions on Wilton that says you must put a 1" stripe of piping gel around the bottom of the cake over the buttercream before you put on the fondant. Is it necessary and why?
