That's a trick question because it can be any kind of ribbon but how you treat the ribbon beforehand is where the questions lie. If you use a crusting buttercream that's already set up and crusted over then you back the ribbon with scotch or shipping tape then apply with a little fresh buttercream - same for IMBC but it remains soft so you'd just press it against the cake. Ribbon tends to absorb oils from the icing and will blotch and look awful. Someone on this site (FoodGuy?) said he knew of a place you could order ribbon that won't absorb moisture of any kind Hope this helps and best of luck getting the ribbon straight.... been there, done that, not fun..


: Hello it's me again with a question (again)! what type of icing would you use if you are puting a ribbon around the centers of each tier of a wedding cake and having a design on top of the ribbon?
