1. Yes you can put the two cakes side by side, no problem. but I would buy the 12x18- you'll use it again!

2. My fallback cake when I don't know what to do is a package with a fondant bow. On a sheet cake it looks like a shirt box! You could do it in chocolate, blue or yellow. Everyone will ooh and aah!
