I've never done this,but you might be able to stack rectangular cakes and carve the sides to make them rounder and smaller on the bottom. Then carve out the top to create a "hole" and place the other items in there. Use a basketweave piping design around the outside and some wire covered in fondant for the handle.

: I have been asked to make a picnic basket cake that depicts the "American way of life", with the following items to be included: hotdogs, apple pie, and a baseball. I also plan on putting in some filler items, such as napkins to match the picnic blanket, utensils, etc. Does anyone have any pictures you could post or email my way? Any suggestions of other items to add, as well as advice if you have done this type of thing before? Thanks!
