The shells are chocolate, dusted with satin luster dust. For the palm leaves I took a long leaf cutter - cut out a moss green leaf from gumpaste, inserted a cloth covered wire then took an Xacto knife and made the cuts in the leaves. Dried in a lazy half moon shape then taped the ends of the wires down with the same sand colored florist tape. You could also make three small brown coconuts to nestle in the leaves on top.
: How did you make the leaves for the palm trees? Are the shells chocolate or fondant?
: Here's a wedding cake I made that sounds similar. Hope this helps. And any flower placed into a mini water pick before being inserted into the cake would be fine.
: I am trying to come up with ideas for a hawaiian them cake for my mother. I have three weeks left. I want the cake to be two tiers and bright colors. Has anyone made a hawaiian cake any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Is it possible to marble fondant in blue and white and cascade down the front to resemble a waterfall or is there another method that works better. I was also considering using fresh flowers since I havn't been able to find gum paste flowers. Can anyone tell me which flowers would be safe. TIA.
