What should I use: Buttercream Icing or Fondant?

: I am creating a 3-D John Deer lawnmower cake for my son who is turning 2 next week. I think the buttercream icing might taste better, but the fondant might look better. I'm not sure which would be better to use. I guess I'm fishing for opinions and suggestions. What would you recommend?
