I don't like fondant and I don't cover cakes with it...I can make a buttercream cake looks just like it. But I have used plenty for accents and lace pieces. I really like Satin Ice. If you don't want to do the red through and through, you could airbrush some white fondant red...that way you could control the color more easily.

: I'm doing a wedding cake in June that they want covered in red fondant. I think I will buy the already colored red fondant, but need some advice on which brand would be best? I haven't ever completely covered a real cake in fondant so don't have a preference on which brand. For what I've done in bows, etc., I use the Wilton since it is readily available and I can buy it at Michael's with a 40% off coupon. What's the best red fondant?? And, are there different colors of red as I'm not sure what color red she is thinking? Is there any way to make a brighter red into a darker red - maybe add more darker red color, but that's what I'm trying to stay away from is adding the color. The cake is fairly small, 12, 8, and 5" rounds unless they decide to go larger.
