Almond Flavoring - Allergy concerns?

: I have had many couples ask me if the Almond Extract is also something some would have to avoid if they are allergic to nuts?  To be safe, I said yes, since I'm assuming the extract would still come from the Almond nut?  Am I right to assume that people with nut allergies should also avoid a cake flavored with Almond Extract?
