Only twice have I had to force a laugh and say out loud to the bride "It's a good thing this is YOUR wedding and NOT theirs". Both times the room went silent as the pushy mother or mother in law digested what I said and then backed down. Gotta make it look like you're telling a joke though or all heck could break loose.
: I have to vent! Yesterday, I had a cake consult for a small wedding cake in June and it was horrible! I met with the mom a few months ago for an initial tasting but this time she brought her husband, as well as her son and the bride-to be. She brought her husband because he didn't like the buttercream in the first tasting because he thought it was too sweet. The bride was very meek and submissive and everyone had an opinion about everything!
I felt so sorry for her. She came with pictures of what she wanted...stacked, white-on-white, bows, etc. and we ended up with the top tier raised up with Wilton plastic columns and a traditional bride/groom topper on top! I forsee that marriage having problems down the road! But I can't get in the middle since my contact/client is the mom and dad.
Yikes! Any suggestions?
