From what I have read, even if you are doweling a cake, you should NOT dowel the center point. The 4 legs evenly spaced and adjusted to just the right height of the cake plus the metal ring make it very strong - strong enough for a person to stand on! It's #1 in my book! I have about 7 full sets now! Can't imagine doing wedding cakes without them.
