I've done a few with fondant swags and of course, my cakes are all buttercream, too. What I've done is attached the swags with a dab of icing and then stuck in a toothpick to hold it until it is dry. Then pull out the toothpick either before or after delivering. You have to be careful where you put the toothpick or you will need something to cover up the hole.
