Sounds like someone wants something for nothing. I have a rule. Once the cake is delivered it is no longer my responsibility and I let them know this up front. Unless you stand there and guard the cake the entire ceremony you will never know what happened. After I set up the cake I take a picture just in case something like this happens so that you have proof. I think you have gone beyond what you should have and they just need to accept that. There will always be another customer placing an order. Unfortunately we have to deal with shady people. As for my caketastrophe they still ate the cake and said that it tasted great. Don't let it get you down we have all been there. You might really want to consider the Stress Free supports they are worth it and give you a piece of mind. You would need to charge a deposit that would cover the cost if they were not returned. As for the manager sounds like shes a friend of the bride to keep insisting on more money. Put you foot down enough is enough.
: thanks for your advise, i have told the manager that i came to an agreement with the bride but again this morning she called me to see what i though about the pics and if i was going to refund the bride the whole cost.and she called me 4 times yesterday and left messages. and it really has nothing to do with the hall, the bride booked her cake through me not the hall and was not suggested by the hall. i am going to send alittle extra to the bride but i think if it was sitting up good for over an hour then it wasn't something i did but likely the staff at the hall but no one wants to admit that they bumped the table or tried to move it, so blame the decorator. thanks again.
: I had the same thing happen to me last year. I all it my caketastrophe. I agree with Carolyn now I use Stress Free supports. I made a stacked cake for my mothers retirement party last week and I thought for sure that the cake was going to collapse during transit but to my surprise it made it there in one piece. The Stress Free supports are great. They are expensive but worth it. I was able to get mine at not cost because I made a wedding cake for a friend and told her that she would have to cover the cost of the items needed. If the bride is fine with a 50% refund then I would leave it at that. Just let the manager of the hall know that you have come to an agreement and the matter has been taken care of.
: hi , just looking for advise on what i should do, had a cake the other day the collapsed an hour after it was set up at the hall, and now the manager of the hall thinks i should give the bride a full refund,i spoke to the bride and i offered her half and she agreeded but the hall still wants be to give a full refund, for my reputation. by the looks of the pics to me it seem like someone either bumped or tried to move the table cuz only the very front of the bottom is messed up, what do you think i should do. she said tyhey couldn't eat any of it but i thought the bottom looked ok for eating. i'm quite ssure i put in support dowels i always do but the maneger said that i didn't, guess i'll see when i get the plates back. i'd post the pics if i knew how to. thanks jean
