Mindy, I dont think anyone was trying to tell you that you need to use fondant. I think they were just suggesting that you use a premade mold. Now, when I want something chocolate and do not want to use fondant or gum paste, I use tootsie rolls. I warm them in the microwave and then knead them and roll them into the shape i need. The fruit flavored ones give you a shiney piece and the chocolate are great for tree trunks, coconuts, etc. Kids love to eat them off the cakes and they taste better than a chunk of fondant. If you really want to make your own mold then use a plastic pearl the size you want and pour your silicone around it. Then you can use any medium you wish to make the pearls out of. Good Luck

: I need to make some chocolate pearls. If I get the silicone putty to make my own molds do I put some in a box, press in the pearls, and wait for it to set up and pop the pearls out?

I need them to go on a cake: my frosting dissolves fondant and candyclay makes my frosting "crack" so I'm kind of stuck.

Who can help?? =) thanks!
