Mold Painting Advice Needed

I've recently decided to add some painted molded items to my line. I've painted molds before, but nothing that really required "coloring inside the lines." I was able to be more "artistic." Now I'm finding that using the old Wilton paintbrushes I'm having a hard time getting the kind of detail I want. And the chocolate is thickening too rapidly to work with it easily. I'm using a Swedish compound chocolate that has some buttermilk in it. (Sommer?) I like the flavor, but do you think I should use Merckens for the painting part? Is there some other kind of brush I should use? Is it easier to use plastic squeeze bottles? Do you routinely thin the "paint" with Paramount Crystals even if it hasn't seized? Is it better to use precolored Merckens as "paint" than to color the coating with Wilton candy colors? Any advice would be welcome.
