I've used an adaptation of Marida icing recipe for years. This one works great, doesn't crust, and people love the flavor.

2 cups shortening
1 cup butter
2 pounds sifted powdered sugar
1 tablespoon clear vanilla

Place the shortening in mixer bowl and mix on low. While shortening is mixing, melt the butter in the microwave just until liquid [a small amount of solid may remain]. Add the butter to the shortening and mix until completely blended. Add the vanilla. Add sugar all at once and mix on LOW until smooth....the mixture is quite dry at first, but quickly forms a smooth icing.

: Hi, Everyone,

Need some advice. I'm tired of the old Wilton decorating icing recipe. I tried using half Crisco (I have found some of the old Crisco still at the grocery store) and half butter, but found it to be too soft. I know soon I won't even be able to get the regular Crisco. Anyway, does anyone have a suggestion for an icing recipe made differently than the Wilton that's good for decorating that won't be droopy. Or any advice on making it stiffer? Leave it in the refrigerator longer?

Thanks for any advice.
