Does it need to be crusting? If not the Bettercreme or Italian Meringue might work. If you need it to crust I would try Earlene's Cream Chesse recipe. What about fondant?
: I have to make a lemon cake, but, the customer doesn't want the icing to be Buttercream, (which is what I make the most of). Any suggestions & sharing your recipe? I need a "safe" icing that doesn't need refrigeration.
