My dad loves black walnuts. They are strong compared to English walnuts. I make a German spice cake for him with black walnuts and raisins. If you want to remove some of the overpowering flavor then soak them in boiling water before using in your cake. Most of the flavor will be removed in the liquid.

I made a 14 inch carrot cake yesterday and the only walnuts I had were black walnuts. Does anyone know if using these nuts will alter the tast of the cake?
